Bloomin’ Blog Year Number Two Begins and the Top Ten
Here they are…the ten posts most read in the past two years…
10. Lead By Example
9. Mind the Gap
8. Leadership and My Father’s Wisdom
7. Let not your hearts be troubled
6. Blooming Where I’m Planted
5. Shoot the Gerbil
4. Straighten Up and Fly Right
3. On cowards, cowardice and comfort—the human condition
2. What to Say to Someone Who’s Lost a Job
1. Conversations with Self
Theories on how these came to be the top ten range from the fact that I know some hits are searches for a song lyric (I can see the phrases people use to search with) to the fear there are a bunch of sick and twisted people looking at the photo of me with a leaf blower wondering what might happen next. I got a link to the article from a disturbing site once, which was enough to give me the creeps.
The main thing is, these posts may have resonated with someone deeply in a totally different way than I intended. I think words only mean what we think they do when we have them in our heads. The minute we share them, they’re open for interpretation and each to make his or her own. That is the best thing about communicating, and it is the most difficult
In answer to Julie’s question about how I plan the blog…I honestly don’t usually plan anything*. The thoughts I share here generally occur very randomly. I’ve found that I have worked to coordinate topics or planned a series, my readership drops off. It’s not as if everyone is checking back in to see what I’ll say next. I think, rather, the readers of the Bloomin’ Blog pop in to see what I’ve said lately. I usually post in the morning. I’m often in my pajamas. I have never written something in advance to post later. I know how to be a more regimented blogger (many people write all their posts for a week at one time and then schedule them for publication); I even know I could work harder at getting readers. But this works for me. I am at my worst when I try to emulate someone else.
I’ve only deleted one post after I wrote and published it. I was ranting about social media. I have other places I can talk about work, this is where I talk about life. There are thousands of experts on social media. I think I am the only expert on shooting gerbils.
Most of the blog comments are left by those who subscribe. I don’t know who the subscribers are. I don’t their names or their email addresses (unless they comment). I just know the 11 subscribers who started out with me because they are my family and friends who told me they were subscribing within the first few months. While the vast majority of comments come from that group of people, it is always great to see someone new drop by our community.
I know that blogging has made me bigger. My spirit expands a bit when I have this place to express some of my thoughts. I try not to rant, but I am grateful for your patience when I have and to those who have shown up on my doorstep with flowers and sent supportive emails when I thought the bloomin’ everything was about to unravel.
I am a woman who is blessed beyond measure. Truly. I am the most blessed person I know and I can’t begin to quantify it. I hope that if you are reading this right now, you know that I count you among my blessings.
Here’s to the years ahead my bloomin’ friends. And here’s to growing goodness.
Onward and upward!
Mimi
*…although I have been thinking about a post on competition since Julie suggested it. I hope to get it written next. Right after I fix my Dad breakfast!
