Growing Greater Goodness

How are you irreplaceable?

Are you someone’s child, sibling or parent—those are roles no one can fill but you. Do you connect with your neighbors and friends in an uplifting way? Do you know how to make people feel at ease in awkward situations? Do you know how to listen really well?

The things at our core—both our natural abilities and our natural roles—are often overlooked at this time of year. We focus on the things we want to be, but aren’t rather than the things that we are and often take for granted.

This year, instead of resolving to do something new or to change something that seems unfavorable, I’d like to challenge us to look at what we are that is good and make it great.

In the business world, this might be categorized as identifying and reinforcing your core competencies. I just think it’s important to be aware of where you are important. And we all are important, we may just be using an inappropriate scale to measure our own self worth.

Step back. See the goodness available to the world through only you. Nurture it. Give that goodness its proper share of attention, and it will grow! And it just may change the world.
