Practice Peace–Moving Forward
Thanks for joining me in Practice Peace month. Ending on September 11 was initially a coincidence, but now seems perfect.
The fourth key to establishing a sense of inner peace is simply to be flexible. I always caution groups to remember that structure is still required—it’s what helps us work in the world—but just be sure your commitment to your plans and structure doesn’t supersede your ability to respond to opportunity. Opportunity in terms of reaching out, lifting up, letting in and doing good are specifically what come to mind, but we shouldn’t overlook the opportunities for spontaneous fun and laughter either. If we’re so committed to staying on task, meeting the objective and carrying out the standard operating procedures of life, we may miss really great ideas, new techniques and—most importantly—engaging great new people.
So…today, make yourself do something new, or go about something old in a new way, just to prove you are flexible! You’ll be amazed at how expansive stretching your spirit can be. You might even feel a bit of pride that you can still learn new tricks—not that there are any old dogs here, of course! And I hope you try stretching your attitudes and opinions first and farthest. Minds and hearts that are flexible open more easily.
Thanks to those of you who entered the photo contest. It meant a great deal to me. Our judges will confer this weekend and prizes will be awarded next week.
To each of you on this day…remember to listen. Remember to let go of the tight clasp you have on your opinions so you can reach out. Remember that the smallest acts of gentleness can calm an angry soul. Remember, most of all, that you are never alone. Remember that God is enough, so you are enough and there is goodness enough to share.
