Working from Home–the Next 100 Days

September 21.
This is an extraordinary day and I’ve been looking forward to it for weeks! This is the day that marks the beginning of my annual year end Power Up to Get It Done self-challenge. There are 100 days left in 2009 my friends, what will you do with these 100 gifts?

My friend and colleague Suzy Graven shared this concept last year in her blog Secrets of the Savvy Woman. It made a tremendous impact on the way I look at time in annual measures. Suzy pointed out that runners focus their last burst of energy into the stretch of the course that is just before the finish line so that they can have their strongest finish. When it comes to an annual perspective of time management, we often think of the end-of-the-year as the prime time to plan for the next year. In business practices, people are so busy getting through fourth quarter and onto the fresh slate of the new year that it is often written off as a platform for planning and correction of plans gone bad rather than for prime production.

Last year, I accepted Suzy’s challenge and committed to walking or hiking every day. I incorporated a rather serious hill into my routine; built an iPod mix just for my walks and found myself full of pride for making a daily walk a new habit. Rather than waiting to make it a New Year’s Resolution; rather than waiting to start on a Monday; rather than waiting until my desk was cleaned off, I started then and there. The idea of using each of the 100 days I had left in 2008 to their full potential resonated strongly with me and I ended the year with a sense of peace and fulfillment in many new ways.

This is your moment. Right now. What can you do in 100 days? Get it done! Tomorrow, we’ll talk about the kinds of time management skills that may help us maintain focus as we work toward our goals.

Happy Annual Finale! Great goodness can grow in 100 days!
