You’re absolutely right!

Does your heart leap at the sense of common cause or interest when you find a kindred spirit? Like you both “get” the same thing at the same moment? Well, I’m so grateful to my fellow blogathoner Beth Terry whose recent post Can’t Take My Mind Off You… led to just that kind of resonance with me. We had a similar response to an article about “how to” blog. (Just read Beth’s blog and you’ll get it…and more.. Beth has moxie…and you know how I love moxie!)

When I begin to inundate myself with “how to” information, I limit any natural ability within me as I begin the fatal act of surrendering to the pressure of all I don’t know and understand.
The thing is, there are so many right ways to reach the same objective. There are as many good ways to raise children as there are parents; as many right ways to tell a story as there are authors and as many right ways to love someone as there are hearts.
It’s not “my way or the highway.” Life is a highway. (Bonus points if you sing that Tom Cochrane thought!) It takes all kinds of vehicles to traverse the various conditions and terrain life hands us.
Celebrate you! All the equipment that God gave you as standard, and the options you’ve added through the wisdom you’ve chosen to embrace. The pressure you put on yourself and comparison to other makes and models is extra weight you need to let go. They will impede your fuel efficiency and keep you from operating at peak performance!
I’m all for turning to outside experts and consultants when we need fresh ideas (pick me! pick me!), but I think of that fresh expertise as accoutrements to the goodness and skills already resident in our own experience. When you can take someone else’s wisdom and use it to reinforce and expand the life you’re building, then it works in your best interest. But when we begin to compare ourselves in a way that limits us or leaves us with that deer-in-headlights feeling of inadequacy, we don’t allow God to use the gifts that are uniquely ours.
While I love to share some travel tips, my course is my own…you need to chart yours. Within you lie all the tools you need to begin. Dust off that tool box and get set to build something good. Whatever you create, it will be just right.
And for if you need a bit of outside help to guide you along the way, don’t forget the wonderful experts joining me in this month’s blogathon. Here’s the latest list one more time for your reading enjoyment!
